The Academic Network of European Disability Experts (ANED) was set up by the European Commission in December 2007 to establish articulation between academics in the area of disability in Europe to support the development of European policies, in collaboration with the Commission's Disability Unit. The ANED's mission and basic principles are therefore to support the goals of European disability policy in achieving full participation and equal opportunities for all people with disabilities.
The ANED's work springs from the knowledge produced by disability research centres in different European countries. The ANED provides a coordination infrastructure that assists the European Commission in implementing the European Strategy on Disability and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
DOTCOM: the Commission's online disability tool
DOTCOM is a database on disability available on the ANED website (information in English).
This resource offers large amounts of information on laws, policies, programmes, strategies and initiatives on disability in the EU Member States and candidate and associated countries.
The tool is user-friendly and allows the public direct access to compare political initiatives undertaken by different European countries to deal with the most relevant disability issues for implementing the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the European Strategy on Disability 2010-2020.
