27-28 March | Council of Europe launches new Disability Strategy 2017-2023

The new Council of Europe Strategy on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2017 – 2023 was drafted over the past year by Council of Europe member States in co-operation with civil society and other stakeholders.The Strategy was adopted by the Committee of Ministers in December 2016 and will be launched during a conference in Nicosia, Cyprus on 27-28 March 2017.

The aim of the conference is to identify how all actors in the Council of Europe member States and within the organisation can work together to realise the objectives of the Strategy over the years to come, namely on the five priority areas identified in the Strategy:
•   Equality and non-discrimination
•   Awareness raising
•   Accessibility
•   Equal recognition before the law
•   Freedom from exploitation, violence and abuse
