The Disability and Human Rights Observatory (ODDH) is holding its V Meeting – "Disability facing the pandemic crisis: challenges and responses”, on December 11, 2020, in an online format (via Zoom), with the support of the Instituto Superior de Ciências Sociais e Políticas (ISCSP), of the Universidade de Lisboa. Taking into consideration the current context of crisis caused by the pandemic, this edition aims to promote a broad reflection and debate on the impacts of the pandemic on the life of persons with disabilities and their families in Portugal, identifying challenges and helping to find answers and solutions.
In the context of this V Meeting, the ODDH will present its annual report: 'Persons with Disabilities in Portugal – Human Rights Indicators 2020'. It systematizes, from secondary sources, the main statistical information on disabilities in Portugal in the following areas: Discrimination, Employment, Education and Social Protection.
Additionally, it will be released results of a study promoted by the ODDH that sought to understand the impacts of the pandemic on the life of persons with disabilities.
The Meeting program also includes a lecture on the rights of persons with disabilities regarding COVID-19, followed by a roundtable of testimonies and experiences of persons with disabilities.
The Seminar also includes parallel sessions to give visibility to the scientific work done by researchers from the disability field. For more information and updates, click here.

Distance learning modalities that are unfit to the needs of students with disabilities, suspension or reduction of support and essential services such as therapies and personal assistance, forcing families to step in and provide care to their relatives with disabilities, and absence of specific information about COVID-19 regarding persons with disabilities were some of the significant negative repercussions of the pandemic on the lives of persons with disabilities, as revealed in the "Disability and COVID-19" study, promoted by the Disability and Human Rights Observatory (ODDH).
