The Disability and Human Rights Observatory (Observatório da Deficiência e Direitos Humanos – ODDH) holds its II Meeting on december 13, 2017, at the Institute of Social and Political Sciences, University of Lisbon (ISCSP-ULisboa). On the occasion of the 11th anniversary of the adoption of United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), this Meeting is intended to promote a wider discussion on the development of human rights of persons with disabilities in Portugal, involving the disability movement, policy makers and researchers.

On 29 August, the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities adopted the General Comment on Article 19 ("the Right to live independently and being included in community") of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The ‘Balcão  IncluiES” was created by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education to provide information on supports and services relevant to people with disabilities who are attending higher education.

The tenth session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) was held from 13 to 15 June 2017 at the UN Headquarters in New York. The theme was "The Second Decade of the CRPD: Inclusion and full participation of persons with disabilities and their representative organizations in the implementation of the Convention".
